History

Support 4 Progress have been based at the Saltshaker Community Centre for approximately 12 years. Support 4 Progress was founded as a self-help service consisting of local black parents coming together to talk about their concerns regarding breakdown of the family unit, work unit, school and their community.

We have now evolved into a Counselling  Approved Training Centre providing professional counselling and quality training opportunities.

Support 4 Progress provides group therapy for both adults and young people to enable them to discuss matters of importance to them in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Group Support and training are delivered by qualified counsellors who work alongside the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapy (BACP) ethical framework.

Group members are informed of and are required to uphold confidentiality.

Through the support of the group, individuals gain confidence in themselves and their ability to communicate feelings and thoughts.

Through group therapy individuals acquire their interpersonal skills.  These skills can be applied to everyday life.

Professional Training

We have a variety of professional development courses e.g. Counselling Therapeutic, Clinical and Consultation Supervision,   also courses which explain culture and diversity.

We also provide Communication and Personal Awareness courses e.g. grief and loss, addiction and anger management.

Due to our combined training and delivering experience we can also provide courses tailored to your needs.

The co-founders and the management committee have worked hard to keep S4P from sinking.  We are now in a position to offer our services throughout the week.  We successfully secured funding from the Home Office in July 2006 – Connecting Communities Plus Funding.

If you feel there is something you would like to talk about or if you have a concern, please contact Velma Lee.

Also if you are an organisation/agency who would like to discuss referrals or make referrals to us, please contact Alicia Henry.
